The Universe
August 28, 2008
“To know peace man has to experience conflict. He has to go through the heroic stage before he can act as a sage. He has to be a victim of his passions before he can rise above them. To arouse man’s passionate nature, to hand him over to the devil and put him to the supreme test, there has to be a conflict involving something more than country, political principles, ideologies, etc. Man in revolt against his own cloying nature – that is real war. And that is a bloodless war which goes on for ever, under the peaceful name of evolution. In this war man ranges himself once and for all on the side of the angels. Though he may, as individual, be defeated, he can be certain of the outcome – because the whole universe is with him.”
- Henry Miller
I wonder about evolution.
I wonder how the world will end.
Which war will be the last?
Disability is SO Hot Right Now

Fashion has always been ridiculous. The average vein human will pick aesthetic over function any day – and submit themselves to styles which do not reflect nor suit the person which they are.
What I am getting to here is spectacles. Why would you wear glasses when your eyes are perfectly fine? Why would you wear a hearing aid if you can hear perfectly well? Why would you spend your days in a wheelchair if you can walk?
Why is it suddenly really popular to look visually impaired and dress up like the kids you teased in primary school? I think it is fucking dumb.
To all you people out there wearing your spectacle frames with no glass – I really want to smack you for being a gullible sheep. Grow some confidence else-wise you will end up with crutches and no broken leg – there is no difference see. You are just mocking the real people.
DISABILITY IS TOTALLY CUTE AND KITSCH RIGHT?

Soul Sensations

You know you get to a point in your music collection when you are completely over everything you have and are looking for some kind of major inspiring breakthrough in new and rarely discovered music?
I am currently at this point and thrilled to have found a small collection of artists who I found via their own collaborations with other artists such as the much loved koop album I own.

ANE BRUN
I discovered this beautiful voice many moons ago when she joined forces with Koop on the ‘Koop Island Blues’ a song which I will never tire of…
Her personal work is much a different style from that of Koop, she dwells in the genres alternative/folk/acoustic and hails from stockholm in Sweden – which does make her albums hard to get a hold of in Australia.
I took her music with me on my travels to Austria and now every-time I listen I think of nothing but long train journeys peering out into the snow covered trees and pastel coloured cottages.

RON SEXSMITH
I don’t know much about him but he worked with Ane on a track called No.6 which I am absolutely in love with. It is very big-band broadway style and you can listen to it on Ane Brun myspace.
Ron himself is from Toronto in Canada and considers himself to be part of the folk/rock genre. I would go as far to say there is a bit of soul in there too. He has a very smooth voice that attracts me – this kind of lazy sway in his voice that reminds me of very classic old film musicals.
I recommend checking out his cover of Brandy Alexander…

BRITTA PHILLIPS & DEAN WAREHAM
Are a couple of very talented vocalists. Dean used to run a band called Luna and then has progressed to solo and duo projects with Britta. Britta is an amazing woman with an incredible vocal range as demonstrated on the track ‘you turn my head around’ on their latest album Back Numbers.
Together this New York pair work beautifully – producing a very lyrical electric/folk sensation. If it is any good reference Dean sounds very very similar to the lead singer of The Panics.

TEITUR
Is a friend of Ane from Stockholm and has collaborated with her on occasion. He has a very expressive voice and his music is extremely varied. He is currently about to release another album called The Singer.
I don’t know a whole lot about him only that I really adore what music he has to offer in the way of acoustic/folk rock/alternative. I suggest you listen to his cover of Louis Louis…

High Spirits
August 5, 2008
Today is my brothers 21st.
I am really proud of him, he is one of my best friends who I know I can trust. He has accomplished so many things and is constantly discovering new passions and working hard towards his ambitions. He has been a perfect role model for me growing up and we have had some wonderful times. I am so flattered that he often includes me amongst his friends and they do too.
His party is happening this weekend and everyone is very excited! I have brainstormed ideas for all the interior decorating and have been making chandeliers out of rusty bike wheels and cutlery. We are using cracked toilets and old sinks as eskies and managed to pick up some red carpet style cinema poles for the entrance. ‘Indie Trash’ theme means I am gonna be whipping out the leotard and whipping out the moves, and hopefully not procrastinating writing his speech anymore. Off too it. I am in HIGH spirits these days.
